NAVCA member Community Links Bromley celebrates local volunteers

February 12, 2024

All NAVCA members support the voluntary and community sector in their local area. We know that volunteering helps communities thrive, and that small charities, community groups and individual volunteers should be appreciated and celebrated. This week, we're sharing an amazing example of a NAVCA member recognising the hard work of local volunteers.

Earlier in June, NAVCA member Community Links Bromley (CLB) hosted the 2022 Bromley Volunteer Awards Ceremony. The Volunteer Awards is their way of celebrating all the fantastic work volunteers do in their communities. Following Volunteers Week (1-7 June), which also aims to celebrate the importance of volunteers, Community Links Bromley wanted to recognise the dedication and selflessness of their local volunteers. They welcomed an incredible audience of over 100 people to Bromley Central Library, made up of all the wonderful volunteers, colleagues from Bromley charities, CLB volunteers and trustees.

The Deputy Mayor of Bromley, Cllr Christine Harris, joined CLB on this special occasion to present the awards. The awards were sponsored by London South East Colleges, Fairlight Group and London Biggin Hill Airport. CLB were also delighted to have Magpie Dance as their pre-awards entertainment, who performed their routine “From Me” to a very appreciative audience.

Community Links Bromley said: ''We were delighted with how the event went. The volunteer feedback has also been terrific, and it just shows how much the event is valued both by the organisations and most importantly by the volunteers. themselves. We hope to do it all again next year!''

Awards in the form of certificates and engraved glass trophies were made on the night to nominees and the overall category winners. These included:

  • Supporting an Individual of the Year Award (winner Pep Ihuomah)
  • Volunteer Manager of the Year Award (winner Liz Spencer)
  • Lifetime Achievement Award (winner Dennis Moore)
  • Volunteer Team of the Year Award (winner Bromley Homeless)
  • Corporate Volunteer Team of the Year Award (winner London South East Colleges)
  • COVID-19 Volunteer of the Year Award (winners Nolene Harris and Brenda Parsons)
  • Young Volunteer of the Year Award (winner Mikail Hussain)
  • The Leslie Marks Trustee Volunteer of the Year Award (winner Don Burford).

The breadth of these award categories really demonstrates the amazing work that volunteers do in Bromley and beyond. Congratulations to Community Links Bromley too, who do vital work supporting the local voluntary and community sector.
