With funding from the National Cyber Security Centre, we run training for our members on keeping their organisations safe.
Cyber security is becoming increasingly important as we work online more, and small charities are often at greater risk of cyber attack, due to fewer resources and lack of knowledge. Through this project, we aim to reach smaller VCSE organisations and improve their awareness and knowledge of cyber security.
Working with the National Cyber Security Centre, we have co-designed a toolkit of training session materials, including key information and interactive activities to build and test comprehension, and monitoring and evaluation tools. The training is in-depth and covers a wide range of information relevant to small charities, and removes the jargon that can make cyber security seem difficult to understand. We’ve also designed a toolkit for members to use to market the training to the local VCSE sector.
NAVCA members have the opportunity to attend a Train the Trainer session, and then sign up to a partnership agreement with us for delivery of onward Cyber Security training.
As the local support organisation for small VCSE organisations in their areas, our members are best placed to identify how to make the sessions accessible and effective.
Members can choose to deliver cyber security sessions as standalone training, or build the content into other training or events. For example, they may choose to target specific cohorts of organisations based on local geography or thematic interest, or to focus on sessions with specific accessibility requirements (e.g. people with English as a second language or people with sensory impairments). The partnership agreement sets the quality standards to be applied, but does not direct the specific delivery mode. We periodically check these standards are being delivered.
